This is the new 40,000-square-foot showroom and service center that Tesla is opening in Red Hook, Brooklyn

Tesla's newest location is at 160 Van Brunt St., in Brooklyn, New York, near Buttermilk Channel.

Tesla told Business Insider in a statement on Wednesday: "We place stores and service centers in strategic locations based on where our current and future customers live and in areas where people are informed and interested in technology."

This is New York City's other Tesla location, in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood.

Van Brunt is a very busy street. There's lots of traffic — including near-constant heavy-truck traffic. There's actually a truck-driving school in the neighborhood, and there's the busy Red Hook Terminal (whose entrance is pictured at right).

The building is huge, with nearly 100,000 square feet. Tesla is leasing 40,000 of it.

This "leased" space is Tesla's, apparently.

This place won't be just a showroom: Tesla owners will be able to have their cars worked on in Red Hook.

Tesla told Business Insider:

"All Tesla locations worldwide are company-owned and operated, allowing Tesla to maintain strong relationships with owners and to build locations that provide customers a consistent Tesla experience around the world."

We were not allowed inside but were able to look through the windows.

Workers have been busy over the past months getting the space ready.

The big work appears to be done, and it looks like it's time for the finishing bits.

Soon it'll be time to move in proper.

It's a good-sized space, for sure.

Presumably this area will be filled with lots of Teslas in need of some TLC.

Till then, the work continues to finish the project.

I, for one, as a resident of Red Hook and a bicycle commuter, will be happy when the project is done.

It'll be nice to have the bike lane clear of the trucks currently parking there. I just hope this lane doesn't turn into a makeshift lot for Teslas.
