The secret parks and waterfalls of New York City
1. E 48th St. and 1st Avenue
2. E 43rd St. and 2nd Avenue
This indoor park is only open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but it's worth a visit. The park is inside the Ford Foundation building and has a small pool, winding brick paths, and tons of foliage.
3. E 51st St. and 3rd Avenue
This waterfall inside Greenacre Park is so loud, it's impossible to hear anything outside the park — which means it offers a great escape from the city. With multiple levels of seating and a refreshment stand, Greenacre Park might be the best-kept secret in Midtown.
4. E 47th St. between 1st and 2nd Avenues
This secluded spot on 47th St. is a quiet and relaxing park located right near the East River.
5. W 52rd St. between 5th and Madison Avenues
Need to escape the long lines waiting outside Radio City Music Hall? Paley Park is right around the corner. Besides a huge waterfall, Paley Park also has a refreshment stand and plenty of tables and chairs, making it a great lunch spot for anyone who works in the area.
6. E 47th between 2nd and 3rd Avenues
Another quiet spot located right near the United Nations, this park is home to one of the largest waterfalls in Midtown.
7. W 48th between 6th and 7th Avenues
Anyone who works around W 48th St. probably knows about this tunnel, but it's one of the coolest spots in Midtown. This park also has a few tables and chairs set up, but they can be scarce, so best to come before or after lunchtime.
8. E 40th St. and 3rd Avenue
If you live or work near E 40th St., you may never have even noticed this rooftop garden. Complete with plenty of benches and a soft drink stand, this park is a great spot to relax, as long as it's not too hot out. While there is an elevator, the stairs are actually located on 3rd Avenue.
