The biggest game of 2017 is getting its first major update
The first thing to notice about "Miramar" is that it's landlocked.
Unlike the tree-studded initial map in "PUBG," in Miramar the world is far more stark.
There are desert plants like cactus, but much of the terrain is sand as far as the eye can see. This oil refinery looks like a great place to get shot!
Whereas the game's first map had abandoned schools and such, Miramar has massive facilities like this.
Some of the best moments in "PUBG" are spent sneaking around massive abandoned places, trying to get the jump on players nearby. This massive facility looks like a great opportunity for exactly that kind of terrifying gameplay, where you can clearly hear footsteps nearby but can't tell where they're coming from. Imagine yourself with a sniper rifle, sitting atop one of those towers, capping fools from a safe distance!
There are, of course, quieter little areas with just a few houses.
"PUBG" players will no doubt be more comfortable with this smaller set up — it's a pretty common theme in the game's first map, Erangel. The number of times I've parachuted into a small band of houses like this and gotten into several insane fights immediately is too many to count.
Do you dare explore each house? Which one is most likely to house someone else, waiting to murder you? These are the questions!
As the map's name suggests, there's plenty of sea-based gameplay to be found in Miramar.
This massive power generator looks like an especially crazy place to fight. It's not hard to imagine hiding out at the end of the pier, holding off an ongoing flood of enemies — until one sneaks up from behind on a boat and takes you out, of course.
And yes, there are denser, more closely packed buildings that offer a similar experience to the urban areas from the game's first map.
Maybe don't drive a loud four-wheeler through the middle of town here — that's a great way to get spotted and shot!
More than just a new map, "PUBG" is about to officially launch on PC. With it comes vaulting: the ability to leap over short objects, like a car hood or a broken fence. Check that out right here:
"PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" otherwise launches on Xbox One on December 12, and is currently available in Early Access on Steam for $30. It's expected to hit "1.0" by the end of 2017, which includes vaulting, the new map, and more additions.
