The new 'Resident Evil' game looks like a new 'Resident Evil' movie
The first thing to know about "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" is obvious — it's very pretty:
Much of the game, if not all of it, takes places in an abandoned plantation home. The house is located in the (fictional) town of Dulvey, Louisiana.
The game stars a man named Ethan Winters. He's looking for his wife, Mia, who's gone missing.
That search leads him to the abandoned plantation homestead of the Baker family. Are any of the Bakers still alive? Maybe!
This man isn't Walter White from "Breaking Bad" — he appears to be the patriarch of the Baker family.
And this woman appears to be Grandma Baker — she appears in a prequel demo to the game, titled the "Lantern" demo. Notably, she's chasing around Ethan's wife Mia.
And she's not super friendly, clearly.
Neither is that aforementioned patriarch!
Mr. Baker could probably use a shower... or ten.

As you can see, he's clearly not unstoppable, but it looks like you'll have to get your hands dirty.
Much of these initial images are actually from the "Resident Evil 7" demos that are currently available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Bizarrely, those demos feature characters and gameplay that won't actually appear in the final game. Instead, they're intended as short, playable prequels.
This potentially dead lady, for instance, may not ever show up in the game that launches later this month.
Graphically, and tonally, and locationally, the demos are representative of the final game. Notably, this isn't a shooter.
There are guns, clearly. The shotgun this statue is holding will be a usable weapon in the game.
Bullets, on the other hand, will be in short supply. This isn't a game about shooting enemies — it's about survival.

To that end, maybe don't take the pills marked, "Psychostimulum: Open Your Eyes"
And definitely don't go anywhere near these massive spiders with nothing more than a buck knife.
This also isn't Ethan Winters. It's still unknown what he looks like. Since the game is played from the first-person perspective, there could be a good reason for that.
Though Winters' wife Mia has been missing and presumed dead for several years, a phone call from her traces back to the plantation.
This mobile home sitting outside of the house assuredly plays into the game's story. It's also just super creepy.
The house itself is in tatters. Oh, and there's a foreboding looking person with a weapon in the dining room.
Someone's paying to keep the electricity on, and this room looks fairly well-kept. The antlers on a chain hanging from the ceiling are disconcerting nonetheless.
If "Resident Evil 7" doesn't seem creepy enough to you, we've got good news: The entire game can be played using a PlayStation VR headset! Terrifying!
Some hallmarks of the series are returning, like these health power-ups. It looks like the one on the left permanently increases the player's health.
It looks like you'll have a backpack for carrying all the stuff you'll assuredly acquire along the way.
And it looks like the traditional inventory management system is making a return. It's kinda like "Tetris," but with survival.
It wouldn't be a modern game without the needless inclusion of modern technology as a plot device! Here's a smartwatch that you'll use to keep an eye on vitals.
But don't get it twisted, this is still a bizarro "Resident Evil" game with creepy monsters. Here are some right now!
We're gonna take a wild guess that they came from this dank nightmare basement.
And they might've had something to do with putting this bicycle into a blood-filled bathtub.
And, what the heck, let's also lay blame on those creepy monsters for these wrapped up cadavers.
Much of the game is still shrouded in mystery. What lies beyond this super creepy door, for instance?
You're right, it's probably just this delightful family eating a nutritious meal.
"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" launches on January 24 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Check out the latest trailer right here:
