Maybe more importantly, the brief demo video shows what the future of video games is sure to include. The developer, Peterson, is running the app on Microsoft's HoloLens headset — a "mixed-reality" headset that puts computer services within your field of vision — that's seen by many as an early look at the future of all computers. In the image above, you can see what Microsoft (and many other tech companies) envisions for tech like HoloLens.

You might be (rightly) thinking that Microsoft's mixed-reality headset is a monstrously large, silly-looking piece of tech. The good news is that it's very much intended as an early entry into a new computing world, where clunky headsets will soon be replaced by something more akin to a pair of sunglasses.

When that future exists as reality, something as simple and amazing as playing "Super Mario Bros." in the world around you will be ready to go.
