Elon Musk owned X (formerly Twitter) has started rolling out video calls for users. The social media platform has been talking about the feature for some time now, with Musk hinting at the addition of the feature.

While X is yet to officially announce the feature, users have received a notification from the app, saying “Audio and video calls are here!”. Additionally, a new setting has been added in the application for a few users, allowing them to enable calls.

X becomes the latest social media app to enable calls

X has become the latest social media platform to allow users to place audio and video calls. Other platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat already allow users to place audio and video calls.

Users to have control

X will allow users to select whether they wish to enable audio and video calls for themselves. What this means is that the user will be able to select whether others can place an audio or video call to them.

It’s not just that – users will also have control over who can call them. As per images shared by users who have received the feature, X allows users to select who can call them:

  • People in your address book
  • People you follow
  • Verified users
For now, there is no option to enable video calls for everyone and this is another feature that is being placed behind the paid subscription.

This comes soon after Musk revealed that X is working on two new subscription plans – a lower cost option with all the features but no reduction in ads. The second plan will be more expensive and will completely remove ads from the platform.

This could also mean that users may have to pay an annual subscription if they want to post anything on the platform.
