Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, which was formerly known as Twitter, said on Thursday that's she not sure if Elon Musk will go through with his offer to fight Mark Zuckerberg in a cage match.

Yaccarino, the former ad boss at NBCUniversal who took over as CEO at the social media company earlier this year, said in an interview with CNBC that the cage match "may be a humorous back-and-forth between Zuck and Musk."

"We'll see if that cage match really does happen," she said. "What I can say is that I've had a front-row seat of witnessing that Elon is training."

The X CEO said it's important that the excitement around a potential matchup between the two billionaires doesn't take away from "the potential of X."

"I think it's a separate excitement from the business," Yaccarino told CNBC. "I represent all business operations. I don't think I will be on the undercard for the cage match."

The CEO's comments come after Musk appeared to cast some doubt on whether the event would take place as well.Earlier this week, Musk floated the idea of a non-physical fight with the Meta CEO.

And on Sunday, the Tesla CEO said he needed to get his neck and upper back examined before the fight and it "may require surgery." Earlier that day, Musk had said the fight would be live-streamed on X.

Musk's biographer Walter Isaacson has also said he doesn't think the fight will take place and called the back-and-forth between the two men "a metaphor."

Musk and Zuckerberg have a longstanding feud and Meta's recent roll-out of its X competitor Threads only appears to have fueled the fight.

During her interview on Thursday, Yaccarino also commented on Threads and its drop in popularity over recent weeks.

"It's dropped off dramatically, but you can never ever take your eye off the competition because they'll continue iterating — as much as the launch has stalled — working on everything that they're doing," Yaccarino said. "What we can say it that they may be building to what Twitter was. Enter rebrand. Enter X. We're focused on what X will be — and it's an entirely different road map and vision."
