iOS 16 update – here are the devices that will support iOS 16 and iPadOS 16

• Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC is back with a slew of new hardware and software announcements.
• Apart from launching new MacBooks, Apple also took the wraps off new macOS, iOS, iPadOS and watchOS updates.

The highly anticipated Apple WWDC 2022 has begun today and the iPhone maker has unveiled the new iOS 16 update. This week-long conference is going to give developers access to technologies and tools by Apple but the key consumer-facing announcements will centre around new hardware and software.

Earlier this month, Apple discontinued the iPod touch and now with the newly announced iOS 16, Apple has dropped support for some older devices including the iPhone 6s, iPhone SE, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPod touch.

Back in 2019, when Apple introduced iOS 13 it dropped support for all devices having less than 2GB of RAM and devices powered by the A7 and A8 chips including iPhone 5S, 6 and 6 Plus. The iOS 13 update also dropped the iPad mini 2, iPad Air, iPad mini 3 and sixth-generation iPod touch.

According to Apple, iOS 16 is only available on iPhone 8 and later. Below is the full list of iOS 16 supported iPhones.

• iPhone 8 Plus
• iPhone SE (2nd generation or later).

For iPadOS 16, all the models of the iPad Pro, iPad Air 3rd gen, iPad 5th gen and iPad mini 5th gen and later are compatible.

iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 are available to developers starting today.
