- Linda Yaccarino decided to change her username on Saturday in support of Twitter's new X branding.
- However, a troll immediately grabbed her old handle and turned it into a parody account of her.
Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino changed her Twitter username on Saturday but fell victim to a troll who claimed her original username and turned it into a parody account.
Yaccarino was all up for a username change over the weekend after Twitter's billionaire owner Elon Musk decided to changed the company's logo from the iconic blue bird to an X.
In an effort to show her support for the logo change, Yaccarino decided to put the vote to the public on what her new username should be. She posted a poll on Saturday writing: "From @lindayaccs to," and gave the options @lindayax or @lindayaxx.
The poll received just over 40,000 votes and Yaccarino eventually settled on @lindayaX. Soon after changing her username, a troll grabbed her Yaccarino's original handle and turned it into a parody account posting a handful of jokes about the platform and its new logo.
The parody account mocked the new logo in one post writing: "Let's revert back to Twitter! Who's with me?"
In another post they joked about buying a porn site: "Should we buy XVideos.com?" Twitter users have complained that the platform's new logo resembled that of a number of adult streaming sites.
Yaccarino can take tips on parody accounts from Musk. After he bought Twitter for $44 billion in October, the platform was flooded with parody accounts of him. Some high-profile celebrities and comedians even changed their username to Elon Musk to poke fun at him.
In response, Musk enforced a policy in November saying "unlabeled" parody accounts will be "permanently suspended."
Yaccarino joined Twitter in June after spending over a decade as an advertising executive at NBCUniversal.
