Vision Pro to iOS 17: Apple’s top six announcements at WWDC 2023

Apple hosted the much-awaited Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 on Monday and the Cupertino, California-based technology giant made some major announcements at the event, including the launch of its augmented reality (AR) headset.Apple also announced a new MacBook Air, a new Mac Pro, the M2 Ultra chipset, iOS 17 and more. Apple Vision Pro
In its biggest announcement, Apple unveiled the Vision Pro, the company’s first AR headset. Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook went as far as to call it “the new type of computer”.
The Vision Pro, which runs on the company’s visionOS uses the same framework as iOS and iPadOS. It comes with a micro-OLED display, a 3D-like camera and spatial audio. The Vision Pro will be controlled by the hands and eyes of the user and will not require a keyboard or a mouse.
Users will not only be able to work, but also watch photos, videos, movies and even play games using the device. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Disney+ is coming to the Vision Pro.

The Vision Pro has been priced at a whopping $3,499 (approx. ₹2.89 lakh) and will be available for purchase in early 2024.
Apple MacBook Air 15-inch
Apple also introduced the new MacBook Air 15-inch, the company’s largest laptop. It comes with a large 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display and a fanless design.
The MacBook Air has an all-aluminium design, is 11.5mm thin and weighs 1.4kg.
It is powered by the Apple M2 chipset and comes with up to 24GB of unified memory and 2TB of storage. The base variant gets 8GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage.

Apple has unveiled the next-gen M2 Ultra chipset, its most powerful chip till date. It uses the 5-nanometer process and has 134 billion transistors. It supports up to 192GB of unified memory and has a memory bandwidth of 800GB/second.
The M2 Ultra comes with a 24-core GPU which offers 16 next-generation high-performance cores and 8 high-efficiency cores. It is also equipped with a 32-core Neural engine with 31.6 trillion operations per second.
Apple Mac Pro
Apple also unveiled the new Mac Pro, which uses the new M2 Ultra chipset. The company claims that the device is up to three times faster than its Intel-powered predecessor.

The new Mac Pro comes with a 24-core CPU, up to 76-core GPU and offers up to 192GB of unified memory.It has eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, which is twice that offered by its predecessor, and supports up to six Pro Display XDRs.
The MacPro starts at ₹7,29,900 in India and is available from the Apple Online Store.
Apple Mac Studio
Apple has unveiled the new Mac Studio with the M2 Max and the new M2 Ultra chipsets. It claims to offer up to six times faster performance than the Intel-powered iMac.
The Mac Studio with the M2 Max model is equipped with a 12-core CPU and up to 38-core GPU. It offers up to 96GB of unified memory and the company claims it is up to four times faster than the Intel-powered 27-inch iMac.

On the other hand, the Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chipset offers a 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and up to 192GB of unified memory.
The Mac Studio is priced starting at ₹2,09,900 for the M2 Max variant and ₹4,19,900 for the M2 Ultra variant. It is now available from the Apple Online Store.
iOS 17 and iPadOS 17
Apple also has a lot in store for iPhone and iPad users. The company unveiled the iOS 17 and the iPadOS 17 at the WWDC 2023.
The iOS 17 update brings personalised contact posters, live voicemail, improved facetime with audio and video messages, improvements to AirDrop, Journal app, and more.
