Twitter is reportedly recruiting engineers after Elon Musk's "hardcore" work ultimatum sparked a wave of resignations on Thursday.
Less than half of Twitter's roughly 4,000 staff agreed to commit to Musk's "extremely hardcore" Twitter, Insider's Kali Hays reported. Musk told employees via email on Wednesday they would be fired and given three months' severance if they didn't commit to his vision for "Twitter 2.0."
Twitter recruiters are reportedly trying to fill staff roles amid the mass resignations. One external engineer received a message from Twitter recruiters asking if they wanted to join "Twitter 2.0 - an Elon company," per The Verge.
Gergely Orosz, a reporter at The Pragmatic Engineer, also reported that Twitter was starting to hire, with recruiters hinting at competitive compensation for new employees.
Orosz said on Twitter: "Twitter starting to hire externally. An outreach email had the title "Twitter 2.0 - an Elon company" and mentioned a competitive and meritocratic environment to work at, hinting at good comp. Twitter *will* need to hire as a large % of devs expected to leave."
Twitter's online careers portal, however, shows only one open role at the company: A senior global content partnerships sales manager job in Tokyo, Japan. The role was listed over a month ago.
Internally, polls of Twitter software engineers show only around 25% of engineers planned to stay at the company for "Twitter 2.0," per The Pragmatic Engineer.
Some "critical" employees received calls from executives or Musk himself trying to convince them to stay during the lead-up to Musk's "hardcore" deadline, Insider reported.
Representatives for Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider's request for confirmation and comment.
