- Twitter's "official" badges seem to have been re-rolled out after appearing, then vanishing.
- Elon Musk previously claimed he had "killed" the gray badges, calling them an "aesthetic nightmare."
Twitter's confusing rollout of its "official" badges appears to be in progress once again.
Twitter's support account confirmed the badges were being added to some accounts after they briefly appeared on Wednesday, but later vanished.
A post from the support account said on Friday: "To combat impersonation, we've added an "Official" label to some accounts."
The badges had been given to some public figures and news organizations but disappeared after Twitter owner Elon Musk said he had "killed" them.
Later in the day, Musk called the labels an "aesthetic nightmare" and said they created a "two-class system." He made the comments during a Twitter Space conversation.
Following Musk's tweet about the badges being "killed," Esther Crawford, Twitter's director of product management, sought to clarify the situation. She said the labels were still going out but with a different focus.
Crawford said: "The official label is still going out as part of the @TwitterBlue launch – we are just focusing on government and commercial entities to begin with. What you saw him mention was the fact that we're not focusing on giving individuals the 'Official' label right now."
KFC, Wendy's, and Burger King were among the accounts that displayed the badge at time of writing. However, accounts including the New York Times and Twitter itself did not appear to have an "official" label.
Representatives for Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
