TikTok’s Google Play rating for android improved to 1.6 after nearly 4 million views disappeared from the app store. TikTok was attacked with severe criticism ever since Youtube removed Carry Minati video roasting Amir Siddiqui for his content on the short-video platform. The latest controversy on Faisal Siddiqui’s acid attack video made the situation even worse. Thousands of people including Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of National Commission for Women called for a ban on the app.
As many as 6 million people bombarded 1 star review with negative on the Google Play Store. So much so that the ratings of the app is down to 1.3 stars from 4.5 stars a few days back.
Date | Rating | Comments |
16 May | 4.5 stars | 22 million |
18 May | 2.6 stars | 23 million |

This isn’t the first time that the rating of a popular app improved mysteriously. Zoom, the video calling app which saw 1900% user growth in calls during quarantine, has faced such a situation two months back. Zoom faced a lot of heat for its unresolved security concerns which used to let hackers barge into any video calls.
Thousands of people dropped negative comments which brought the ratings down from 4.5 star to 2.0. However, the ratings were back to 4.0 a few days later — more so Google did not comment on how that happened.
Another similar incident happened in China, where thousands of students gave negative comments about DingTalk to escape online classes. However, it was available for download even after that.
