  • The 2020 US presidential election is coming to "Animal Crossing" care of the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris campaign.
  • A variety of yard signs in support of the Biden-Harris ticket are available in-game through custom QR codes created by the campaign.
  • "This is just the start of how we plan to engage players ahead of November as we're already looking forward to rolling out more digital swag, voter education tools, and organizing efforts on 'Animal Crossing' and other platforms," the campaign's director of digital partnerships, Christian Tom, said in a statement.
  • The Biden-Harris campaign is only the latest politician to get involved with "Animal Crossing." Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined the game back in March and visited a handful of islands.

As fall arrives in "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" this week, so do a handful of new yard signs for the upcoming US presidential election.

The campaign for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris has created a slew of in-game, virtual yard signs in support of the Biden-Harris 2020 ticket.

Those new signs are available starting on Tuesday through custom QR codes that the campaign created, which will be seeded through social media.

The signs, alongside virtual versions of Biden and Harris, are the first of several digital initiatives from the campaign.

"This is just the start of how we plan to engage players ahead of November as we're already looking forward to rolling out more digital swag, voter education tools, and organizing efforts on 'Animal Crossing' and other platforms," the campaign's director of digital partnerships, Christian Tom, said in a statement.

Tom described the game as a "dynamic, diverse, and powerful platform that brings communities together from across the world," and described the campaign's involvement as a way "to engage and connect Biden-Harris supporters as they build and decorate their islands."

The Biden-Harris ticket isn't the first time the wildly popular Nintendo Switch game "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" has seen political activity: The game has been the scene of virtual protest, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez used the game to virtually meet with constituents back in March.

And Biden himself was previously part of a political campaign that employed video games for reaching voters: Ads for the presidential campaign of Barack Obama were spotted in a variety of EA games all the way back in 2008.
