That real estate listing you just saw for your dream house may have been written by ChatGPT
- Realtors have picked up ChatGPT as a tool for writing listings, CNN reported.
- One agent said the tech could be used to spice up descriptions in a video.
Real estate brokers are sitting back to let AI do the talking, as agents across the country use ChatGPT to pen emails and write property listings.
The viral artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT has made waves in sectors from tech to media since it launched to the public two months ago. As the AI software grows in popularity, people are finding more and more creative ways to put the tech to use — including making it write flowery descriptions for real estate listings.
"This home features a beautiful gas fireplace, a spacious living room, and a large lower-level family room," reads one listing on Zillow for a four-bedroom house in Iowa.
The house is just one of the listings put up by Iowa realtor JJ Johannes using help from AI, CNN reported.
"It saved me so much time," Johannes told CNN. "It's not perfect but it was a great starting point. My background is in technology and writing something eloquent takes time. This made it so much easier."
Johannes took to Twitter to sing the praises of AI, recommending the tech to other realtors looking to spice up their diction. In a video posted to the site, he showed a description of a three-bedroom house — complete with familiar phrases like "open floor plan" and "recently updated" — written entirely by ChatGPT.
"I could ask it to regenerate it, I could add more features. I could use something like this for a social media post or for a newsletter or something like that," he said in the video. "And that's really just scratching the surface of what you could do with ChatGPT," he added.
As the technology emerges as a tool for realtors, some experts say AI is well on its way to becoming an industry standard.
"It may not be with ChatGPT, but I believe some form of artificial intelligence like this will become a big part of how we work and live our lives," Matt Kreamer, a spokesperson for Zillow, told CNN.
Use of AI has spread far and wide among realtors, CNN reported. Miami broker Andres Asion even used the tech to rewrite emails, emphasizing legal liabilities and implications, according to CNN.
Asion told CNN that ChatGPT helped him rewrite an email to unresponsive developers on behalf of a woman unable to open the windows in her home, noting the developers only responded after he used AI to pen an email outlining liability implications for the developers.
"ChatGPT wrote it as a legal issue and all of a sudden, the developer showed up at her house," he told CNN.
Even if ChatGPT, now free for users, becomes a paid service, Asion told CNN the price tag would be no question.
"I would easily pay $100 or $200 a year for something like this," he told CNN. "I'd be crazy not to."
