The PlayStation 5 is still quite difficult to get due to stock shortages but despite that, it’s still selling faster than expected. Sony has revealed that as of July 18, it has sold more than 10 million PS5 consoles globally. This makes the PS5 the fastest-selling console in Sony’s history even beating the PS4.Sony seems to be making progress though as it announced selling 7.8 million PS5 units back in April this year. In less than three months, it has sold more than 2 million units of the PS5. The numbers are quite surprising as the PS5 has been suffering stock shortages ever since its launch not only in India but other markets as well. Sony launched the PS5 in February earlier this year but in limited quantities. It has since gone on sale a couple of times through its official online store, e-commerce sites and retailers. But the PS5 has managed to get sold out in minutes, sometimes even seconds in every restock sale.
“While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply. I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE,” said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
In addition to the PS5’s new milestone, Sony also shared some updates on its launch titles. These include Spider-Man: Miles Morales which has sold more than 6.5 million copies, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart sold more than 1.1 million copies. Sony also shared that Returnal has sold more than 560,000 copies since its launch in April.
