Snapchat is gearing to introduce a new parental control feature called ‘Family Center’. This feature will allow parents to see who their children are friends with and who they have been messaging over the past seven days or more. The news came from the screenshot shared by the product intelligence firm, Watchful.

This feature might come in handy for parents because, unlike other social media networks, Snapchat’s friend list is not public. The shared screenshot features -

Keep in between friends - under which parents can encourage their child to only add people they know.

Get insight- parents can see with whom their child is interacting

Report abuse- encouraging the child to report abuse or harassment.

The parental control feature will work by allowing parents to invite their teens to in-app Family Center. The recipient will be having the option of either accepting or rejecting the invitation.

This all-new approach to parental control by Snapchat is promising as it keeps a balance between keeping child's privacy and keeping them safe from bad actors. Instead of spying on their child, it ensures parents and child have a conversation about parental monitoring with a transparent wat\y to track their activity.

The image shared by Watchful represents that this feature is still under development. We can assume that features at this stage often change before launch.

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel first teased family safety tools back in 2021 when he talked about how this feature gives parents better visibility into how a child uses Snapchat.
