Samsung is, by some measure, one of the best when it comes to Android tablets. After launching the premium Galaxy Tab S7 series earlier this year, Samsung has now launched an affordable option, the Galaxy Tab A7.

Given that Android tablet launches are far and few between, especially if you are looking for quality, the Galaxy Tab A7 is important for both Samsung and consumers. More so at a time when many Indians are now working from home or attending classes online.

Despite targeting the budget segment with the Galaxy Tab A7, Samsung has equipped it with decent hardware and features. The specs look good on paper, but how well does that translate to real-life experience? Let’s find out.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 price in India

Samsung has priced the Galaxy Tab A7 at ₹17,999 for the Wi-Fi version and ₹21,999 for the Wi-Fi + LTE version. It comes in Dark Gray, Silver, and Gold colour options. It can be purchased from the Samsung India online store, Amazon and other leading retail stores.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 – design and display

The Galaxy Tab A7 sports a simple design, with the display covering up most of the front and the back remains bare for the most part, except the camera on the top left and the Samsung branding in the middle.

The bezels are uniform and thick enough to make it easy to hold the tablet. While slim bezels make sense on smartphones, tablets are heavier and hence require more surface area to hold.

The Galaxy Tab A7 comes equipped with a 10.4-inch TFT LCD display. In my usage, I found that it doesn’t get as bright and crisp as the premium Galaxy tablets. However, the colours are still good enough and not washed out as they are on some other budget tablets.

I tested the Galaxy Tab A7 as a media consumption device, as well as for tasks like typing out short paragraphs and studying topics. The display was decent for all these use cases.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 – performance and video calling

The Galaxy Tab A7 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset, paired with 3GB memory and 32GB storage, which can be expanded up to 1TB using a microSD card.

The tablet is well optimized, and the performance is smooth in most cases. Using it is a breeze for some of the most common tasks, like watching videos, browsing the internet, reading, and checking email. There were no noticeable stutters throughout my usage, which is impressive for a budget tablet.

An important aspect of a tablet these days is video calling. The Galaxy Tab A7 has a 5MP front camera. It’s adequate in most cases, but you need to be in a well-lit environment for clear video quality.

This is handy, especially when you have to attend many video conferences, whether it’s for work or attending online classes.

The battery also lasts for a long time – in my testing, it lasted for nearly three days before I had to reach for the charger. This will vary based on usage, but the battery life is impressive nevertheless.

Should you buy the Galaxy Tab A7?

The Galaxy Tab A7 is an easy recommendation if all you need is a device to consume video content, attend video calls or online classes. It’s also a great option for browsing the internet on a bigger display.

The battery life is excellent and coupled with a great price, the Galaxy Tab A7 is an excellent option in the budget segment.

However, if you are a creative person or multitask a lot, you will want to consider other options like the Galaxy Tab S7 series or the Apple iPad lineup.
