The company has unveiled its latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Snapdragon AR2 glasses, new sound chipsets, and a new line of custom Arm cores, Oryon.Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset
Qualcomm has announced the successor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, which has been named the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The chipset will power the next generation of Android flagship smartphones in 2023.
The chipset has several improvements over its predecessor, including an improved image signal processor (ISP) and gaming and AI improvements. It promises to deliver faster and more efficient performance in day-to-day usage as well as gaming, along with photography improvements.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is equipped with the new Kryo CPU built on the latest ARM-V9 architecture. It is claimed to be 35% faster and up to 40% more power efficient than its predecessor. It uses a prime core, four performance cores, and three efficiency cores.

The camera department will receive a major boost with the new chipset, equipped with the company’s new Cognitive ISP that offers real-time image segmentation, allowing the device to recognize different aspects of a photo or video. In real-time, it can differentiate between different things like faces, hair, clothes, and backgrounds, such as skies and mountains.
Another significant improvement that the new chipset brings is for gaming. Gamers are in for a treat with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The new Adreno GPU brings features such as real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing offering life-like light and reflections in games.
Like most recent chipsets from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset also brings AI improvements. It is claimed to perform up to 4.35 times faster than its predecessor in natural language processing.
Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1
Qualcomm has also announced the Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 platform as part of the company’s extended reality (XR) portfolio. The chipset aims to make powerful sleep augmented reality (AR) glasses.

The company has developed a multi-chip distributed processing architecture that delivers 2.5 times better performance while consuming up to 50% less power.
It comes with a distributed processing architecture consisting of an AR processor, an AR co-processor, and a connectivity platform. While latency-sensitive data is processed on the glasses, complex data processing requirements are sent to a Snapdragon-powered smartphone, PC, or to other compatible host devices.
“We built Snapdragon AR2 to address the unique challenges of headworn AR and provide industry-leading processing, AI and connectivity that can fit inside a stylish form factor,” said Hugo Swart, vice president of XR product management, Qualcomm.
