PlayStation 5 Pro might launch soon, developers reportedly delaying their games to wait for the console
  • Sony might soon launch the PS5 Pro
  • The console is expected to come with a major performance boost
  • Developers were found talking about the PS5 Pro during Gamescom 2024

Console gamers have been eagerly waiting for an announcement about the PlayStation 5 Pro but rumours in that department died down when Sony introduced the PS5 Slim in April this year. Now, there’s some good news for all PlayStation enthusiasts as Sony is reportedly planning to launch the PS5 Pro soon. Even though such rumours have surfaced in the past as well, this time, there’s more fuel to the fire.

PS5 Pro rumours surface again

According to reports, developers at the recent Gamescom 2024 event in Cologne have begun to drop hints that suggest that the more powerful iteration of the PlayStation 5 may be just around the corner.

The first clues surfaced during a live stream by the Italian website Multiplayer, where a developer revealed that their game had been delayed due to the upcoming launch of the PS5 Pro. This revelation quickly caught the attention of industry insiders, who began piecing together information that points towards an imminent release.

A reporter from WCCFtech also supported this story, adding that they had also spoken with developers who had received the specifications for the PS5 Pro. These developers expressed confidence that the new hardware would significantly improve the performance of games built using Unreal Engine 5, a powerful game engine that has become increasingly popular among developers.

Interestingly, as per reports, the developers who have spoken about the PS5 Pro are not all from major studios. This suggests that Sony is distributing the new hardware to a wide range of developers, not just its top-tier first-party teams like Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch. This broader access could indicate that Sony is keen to ensure that a wide variety of games are optimised for the PS5 Pro when it finally hits the shelves.

As anticipation builds, gamers are eagerly awaiting an official announcement from Sony. The return of the company to the Tokyo Game Show later this year has also fuelled speculation that the PS5 Pro could be unveiled at the event. If the console does follow the same timeline as the PS4 Pro, an announcement could come as early as September.

Tentative launch timeline and more

In addition to this, PS5 Pro is expected to follow a similar launch pattern to its predecessor, the PS4 Pro, which was unveiled in early September 2016 and released in November of the same year.

Industry analyst William R. Aguilar had also said earlier that Sony could announce the PS5 Pro in September 2024, with a launch date likely to follow in November. This timing would allow the new console to hit the market just in time for the lucrative holiday season, giving gamers a new reason to invest in the PlayStation ecosystem.

In terms of performance expectations, the PS5 Pro is expected to offer a substantial performance boost over the standard PS5, with some reports suggesting a potential 45 percent improvement. This would make it a highly attractive option for gamers looking to experience the latest titles with enhanced graphics, faster load times, and smoother gameplay.

In the meantime, the gaming community continues to speculate about what the PS5 Pro will bring to the table. Will it offer 8K gaming? Will it have a larger storage capacity? Will it support advanced features like ray tracing and VR? While these questions remain unanswered, one thing is certain: the PS5 Pro is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly anticipated gaming hardware releases in recent memory.
