New York-based autonomous mobility startup Ottonomy has unveiled its fully autonomous unmanned delivery robot, the Ottobot Yeti, at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023.

The Ottobot Yeti is not the first delivery robot from the company but what sets it apart from other devices is the auto-dispense mechanism that allows it to deliver products without any human involvement, meaning there is no need for a person to be present to receive the product.
Ottobot Yeti – what is it, and how does it work?
Ottonomy has dubbed Ottobot Yeti as the “first fully autonomous unmanned delivery robot” in the market. It is an updated version of the Ottobot 2.0 unveiled in August 2022.

The way it works is quite simple. The above video shows that it comes with a tilting mechanism that drops the product at a designated place. In the earlier version, the Ottobot 2.0 simply opened a shutter, allowing people to pick up their products inside the robot.

The tilting mechanism has removed the need for a person to be present at the location. The robot is in no way perfect at the moment and cannot be used for fragile products as it simply drops them.

The Ottobot Yei is, however, useful for no-contact deliveries, which may be useful in areas affected by COVID.

Ottonomy is currently testing different modular bins for different products, so we may see some designs used for fragile products. The company’s autonomous delivery robots are currently being tested in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
$3.3 million funding
Ottonomy raised $3.3 million in August 2022 in a seed funding round led by pi Ventures, with participation from Connetic Ventures, Sangeet Kumar, and Branded Hospitality Ventures. It also saw participation from angel investors from India, the US, Europe, Singapore, and the Middle East.
