Microsoft is going to make OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT available on its platforms soon, the company announced in a blog post on its website on Monday.

Azure OpenAI is now generally available as part of an expansion of Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI, Microsoft's corporate vice president for AI platforms Eric Boyd wrote. Azure OpenAI is a service through which language tools like GPT-3 and Codex can be used and adapted to specific tasks.

ChatGPT — which has been trialed on Azure AI infrastructure — will be available through Azure OpenAI soon, the post said. A date for its release wasn't specified.

Microsoft highlighted that companies like KPMG, Al Jazeera, and Moveworks are already using its Azure OpenAI service. Al Jazeera, for example, uses the service for translations, context extraction, and applying its style guide.

The announcement comes after Semafor reported that Microsoft was in talks to invest $10 billion into OpenAI at the end of 2022. Microsoft previously invested $1 billion into OpenAI in 2019.

The artificial intelligence company launched ChatGPT at the end of November and saw a meteoric rise in popularity. The chatbot amassed one million users in five days drawing people in with its ability to do everything from writing essays, to creating social media posts, to writing some types of code.

Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella said at a Wall Street Journal panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Tuesday that the tech giant plans to incorporate artificial intelligence products like ChatGPT in all of its tools.

"Every product of Microsoft will have some of the same AI capabilities to completely transform the product," Nadella said.

In late December, The New York Times reported that Google had issued an internal "code red" over ChatGPT's surging popularity, with some executive fearing that something like ChatGPT could eventually supercede Google's search engine.
