Acceptance of change is vital to working at Meta, the company's chief business officer said.

At Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit on Tuesday, Meta chief business officer Marne Levine discussed the company's evolving focus toward the metaverse and its impact on Meta's workers.

"I think that the people at Meta - one thing that they understand is that they generally have this mindset which is that they sort of have this acceptance that things are going to change and evolve," she said.

Levine added, "if you're not comfortable with that, it's probably not the right place for you."

Meta is currently in a period of intense change.

The company rebranded from Facebook to Meta last year after CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company's plan to invest billions of dollars into the metaverse — just before the a slowdown in the overall economy caused a challenging environment for many tech companies.

Meta is currently in a hiring freeze as it looks to cut costs amid a slowdown in advertising spending. Additionally, the company recently rescinded job offers to some contract employees and interns.

Levine compared the current environment at Meta to the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Things were changing quickly during covid. People felt disconnected during covid and so trying to communicate with them regularly through the different tools... and bringing people together. The same is true here now," she said.

Levine said that Meta employees have had to become accustomed to adapting to change at the company.

"I try to help them along in that journey and understand where we are, where we're going, and how best that they can play a role in making that transformation," she said.
