Meta's AI chatbots are coming, and there's a good chance you'll recognize some of them.
During the company's Connect event on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta will be integrating new AI assistants across its social media platforms that can have human-like conversations.
In addition to Meta's more straightforward Meta AI chatbot, which is positioned as a ChatGPT competitor, Meta's slate of AI assistants will have individual personalities that can serve different functions.
Max, for instance, is an AI assistant that plays the role of chef who can help users come up with recipes and suggest ingredients that can enhance your meals. Lily, the personal editor AI, can help you brainstorm ideas and edit your copy.
Zuckerberg said the AI assistants can also help users do things like find the best barbecue on a roadtrip and suggest instructions on how to make costumes using arts and crafts.
Enter the celebs
Many of the AI assistants even have celebrity personas that can talk and sound similar to them.
Victor, the AI assistant, played by former NBA basketball player Dwyane Wade, will be able to put together a workout plan and help users stay motivated in reaching their fitness goals. Amber, played by Paris Hilton, can act as a forensic expert, according to Meta's demo.
Zuckerberg even demoed a "dungeon master" AI assistant played by Snoop Dogg that can play a text-adventure game with users.
Meta's other AI assistants are played by celebrities like Tom Brady, Kendall Jenner, Naomi Osaka, Chris Paul, Charli D'Amelio, Israel Adesanya, and Roy Choi.
Still, Zuckerberg said that the AI assistants aren't just designed to answer queries.
"This is about entertainment and about helping you do things to connect with the people around you," he said. "We thought that this should feel fun, and it should feel familiar."
The announcement comes just days after The Wall Street Journal reported that Meta will be releasing AI personal assistants as way to attract and keep Gen Z users on Facebook and Instagram.
Zuckerberg said the AI assistants will begin rolling out in beta on Wednesday, ramping up to a wider release in the coming days.
