Mark Zuckerberg says he's ready to fight Elon Musk 'today,' but the X CEO hasn't confirmed a fight date: 'Not holding my breath.'
- Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk have been talking about a cage fight with each other since June.
- Zuckerberg said he proposed August 26 for a fight date but that Musk hasn't responded.
Mark Zuckerberg said he's prepared to fight Elon Musk and is just waiting for a response from his opponent.
Since June, the two social media heads have been posting on their respective platforms about the idea of a cage fight — a proposal that seems to have been first prompted by a random Twitter user.
Twitter has since been rebranded as X.
"I'm up for a cage match if he is lol," Musk wrote on June 20. To which Zuckerberg soon responded: "Send me location."
On Sunday afternoon, Zuckerberg posted on his own platform, Threads, saying he is "ready today" and that he proposed August 26 for a fight date when Musk first challenged him.
"I suggested Aug 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn't confirmed. Not holding my breath," Zuckerberg wrote.
Hours before, Musk posted that the fight would be live-streamed on X and that "all proceeds will go to charity for veterans." But it doesn't appear that Zuckerberg agreed to those conditions.
"Shouldn't we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?" Zuckerberg wrote on Threads, responding to Musk's proposal to stream the fight on X.
Beyond social media posts from Zuckerberg and Musk, more formal signs that the fight is happening have yet to materialize.
UFC President Dana White previously said the two are "absolutely dead serious" about the fight. But Musk's mom Maye appeared to throw cold water at the chance of the event happening when she tweeted on June 22 that "the fight has been canceled."
"Great relief!" she said.
Several venues for the matchup have been floated, including The UFC Octagon in Las Vegas and the ancient Colosseum in Rome.
Musk and a spokesperson for Meta did not respond to a request for comment sent during the weekend.
