US President Joe Biden has launched an account on Donald Trump's Truth Social, as his campaign mocks the his likely rival in next year's election.

The Biden campaign, which launched the account under the handle @bidenhq, announced it had joined the conservative social media site with the post "let's see how this goes. Converts welcome!" Trump is the only account it is currently following.

"We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be very funny," said the Biden campaign in a post on X.

"Follow us there for truths and retruths or whatever they call them."

Biden campaign aides told Fox News that the move was an attempt to reach out to conservative voters and hold "MAGA accountable on their own platform."

"There's very little 'truth' happening on TruthSocial, but at least now it'll be a little fun," a senior Biden campaign aide told Fox.

Truth Social, which was created by former president Trump, has had a bumpy ride since it launched in February 2022.

The site, which markets itself as a free-speech alternative to social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, is known best for its most famous user, with Trump's posts frequently causing controversy, even occasionally getting him into hot water with judges.

Truth Social is estimated to have approximately two million active users, a tiny number compared to the hundreds of millions, even billions, of users sites like Facebook and TikTok attract.

Donald Trump is currently leading the polls in the race to become the Republican nominee for the next presidential election, despite facing a wide array of legal challenges and charges, all of which he denies.
