Jeff Bezos is giving Dolly Parton $100 million to donate to a charity of her choice as a part of receiving his Courage and Civility award.
Bezos, the world's second-richest person, tweeted a video clip on Saturday from the awards ceremony.
He wrote in the caption: "We've just announced a new Courage and Civility award recipient — @DollyParton, who leads with her heart, and will put this $100 million award to great use helping so many people. She joins prior awardees, @VanJones68 and @Chefjoseandres. Congrats, Dolly!"
Lauren Sanchez, Bezos' partner, said in the clip that the award "recognizes leaders who aim high, find solutions, and who always do it with civility."
Bezos described the country singer as someone who "embodies these ideals" and a person who "gives with her heart."
He added: "What she's done for kids and literacy, and so many other things, is just incredible."
Bezos has a net worth of $171 billion, according to Forbes, making him second only to Elon Musk.
In the video taken at the awards ceremony, Parton said: "When people are in a position to help, you should help. I know that I've always said I try to put my money where my heart is and I think you do the same thing. I will do my best to do good things with this money. Thank you Jeff."
Parton has previously donated $1 million towards coronavirus vaccine research and has been an active philanthropist since 1995 when she launched the Imagination Library through the Dollywood Foundation. Her program donates books to children across five countries.
Bezos has also been known to give to charity in recent years. In 2019 the Amazon founder donated $100 million to help tackle homelessness and allowed the charities to choose how they spend the funds.
Since he stepped down as chief executive officer of Amazon in July last year, he has launched the $10 billion Earth Fund to help fight climate change and given $200 million to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
It is not yet known which charities Parton plans to give donations to.
