Amazon is looking for 50,000 square feet of office space in Miami, the ecommerce giant told Business Insider.

The news came just weeks after founder Jeff Bezos announced he was moving from Seattle to Miami to be closer to his parents and to Blue Origin's operations in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Amazon's search started before Bezos announced he was moving to the city, but the company has not signed any direct leases, a company spokesperson told Bloomberg, which first reported the news.

Amazon's spokesperson told BI the search for news space is due to the company's organic growth in the Miami region over the last few years. It currently has over 400 corporate and tech employees assigned to serviced office locations in the Miami region.

Miami is emerging as an economic hot spot with Americans and businesses moving to the city in droves, Insider's Jacob Zinkula reported.

Companies that have moved their headquarters to Miami post-pandemic include hedge fund Citadel and tech firm Anaplan.

In October, Bezos snapped up a seven-bedroom mansion in Indian Creek, Florida, for $79 million.

Indian Creek is known as "Billionaire Bunker" for its rich residents and high-security premises. Zillow named it the most expensive neighborhood in the US in 2021.

The private island has stringent security measures and is heavily guarded, Insider's Hannah Towey reported in December 2022 after a tour of the area. Carl Icahn, Jared Kushner, and Ivanka Trump are all homeowners on the island.
