Those of us that are extremely online know it's easy to get carried away, opening tab after tab in the Safari browser on an iPhone.

Running up those browser tabs on an iPhone can be taxing to your thumbs and data, and you may want to close most of your tabs to keep your iPhone running smoothly.

Thankfully, iOS 13 offers a clever way to help keep the iPhone's Safari browser clutter-free.

Rather than having to swipe and tap away all those sites that - let's be honest - you'll probably never end up reading, you can set Safari to automatically retire the tabs after a certain period of time.

How to automatically close tabs on your iPhone in Safari with iOS 13

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

2. Scroll or search for Safari in Settings.

4. Find the section labelled "Tabs" and select "Close Tabs."

5. The default will be manual. Select the period of time you'd prefer your tabs to close automatically.

For me, I knew I'd select the month option - my brain tends to meander, so I might still want the information I clicked on and wandered away from, even after a few weeks have passed.
