Intel announced two new processor ranges aimed at small and lightweight laptops and notebooks.- These new processor ranges, the P and U series, offer up to 14 threads and combine power and efficiency cores in a single package.
- Intel states that over 250 laptops will be powered by these processors in 2022.
According to the chipmaker, the new P and U series processors will power over 250 laptops in 2022 alone. These laptops and notebooks will include 2-in-1s, convertibles, detachables and foldable screen laptops, among others.
Intel says it is combining the power and efficiency cores for these kinds of laptops for the first time, coupled with
“From the ultra-thin form factors to enthusiast-grade performance in a sleek design, we’re providing consumers and businesses with leadership performance and cutting-edge technologies,” Intel corporate vice president Chris Walker said in a statement.
The new Intel P and U series processors come with up to 14 cores – with a combination of 6 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores. For the smartphone enthusiasts, this might seem similar, since Qualcomm and other chipmakers also have their own chipsets that come in a similar combination.
Intel is claiming performance benefits of up to 70% in multi-thread and up to twice the performance in terms of editing, which should benefit creators. With these slim laptops aimed at this audience, these performance benefits should translate into significant real-world gains.
Apart from this, Intel is also packing in fast connectivity options like Wi-Fi 6E, which is capable of gigabit wireless speeds. These new processors also support Thunderbolt 4.0 for fast and reliable wired connectivity to any dock or display.
