Indian PC market records 7.1% growth in Q2 2024, HP leads with nearly a third market share

Indian PC market records 7.1% growth in Q2 2024, HP leads with nearly a third market share
  • The Indian PC market has recorded a 7.1% year-on-year growth in shipments in Q2 2024.
  • This makes it the fourth consecutive quarter where the shipments have grown.
  • HP continues to lead the Indian PC market with a share of over 30%.
The Indian PC market, which includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations recorded a growth of 7.1% year-on-year in Q2 2024, marking the fourth consecutive quarter to record growth.

According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), 3.39 million devices were shipped in India in Q2 2024, with all three categories of desktops, notebooks and workstations recording good growth.

In Q2 2024, desktops recorded a 5.9% year-on-year growth, notebooks recorded a 7.4% year-on-year growth and workstations recorded a 12.4% year-on-year growth.

“Vendors kickstarted the back-to-school/ college campaigns, and good demand was seen in the e-tail channel as well during online sales. Vendors stocked the channel to prepare for upcoming Independence Day sales, which gave a healthy growth in consumer PC shipments,” said Bharath Shenoy, research manager, IDC India & South Asia.

HP leads the market in terms of shipments, with over a million devices shipped in Q2 2024, recording an 8.9% year-on-year growth in shipments. The company led both the commercial and consumer segments with shares of 33.5% and 29.7%, respectively.

Acer recorded the highest growth in shipments at 38.3%, while Dell recorded the least growth in the top five at 3.3%.

“The onset of AI PCs and several launches in the last few months has definitely brought a wave of optimism in the PC market. While AI PCs may not bring significant consumer demand in the near term, it is likely to make gamers and content creators consider an AI PC in the medium term. AI PCs will also drive refresh commercial orders from 3Q2024 onwards,” said Navkendar Singh, associate vice president, Devices Research, IDC India, South Asia & ANZ.

HP leads the Indian PC market with nearly a one-third share, recording a 31.7% share in shipments in Q2 2024, up from 31.1% in Q2 2023.

Lenovo is second with a market share of 17.5% in Q2 2024, up from 16.2% in Q2 2023. Dell has reported a decline in its market share, from 15.3% in Q2 2023 to 14.8% in Q2 2024.

Acer has recorded good growth, with its market share rising from 11.4% in Q2 2023 to 14.7% in Q2 2024. Asus on the other hand reported a slight decline from 7.2% in Q2 2023 to 7.1% in Q2 2024.
