Indian PC market down by 6.6% in 2023, HP leads the market while Acer gains

- The Indian PC market recorded a decline of 6.6% in shipments in 2023.
- Q4 2023 is the second consecutive quarter the shipments have grown, after four quarters of decline.
- HP leads the PC market in India with nearly a third of the market share.

The Indian PC market witnessed a decline in shipments in 2023, joining tablets which also witnessed a sharp decline in 2023. In 2023, the Indian PC market consisting of desktops, notebooks, and workstations shipped 13.9 million units and reported a decline of 6.6%.According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), while the desktop category witnessed a growth of 6.7% year-on-year in 2023, the notebooks and workstations categories declined by 11.1% and 14% respectively.
After four consecutive quarters of decline till Q2 2023, the Indian PC shipments bounced back in Q3 2023 to record its highest ever shipments at 4.5 million devices. In Q4 2023, the Indian PC market recorded shipments of 3.3 million devices.
In 2023, the PC consumer segment declined by 3.1% year-on-year while the commercial segment declined by 9.7%. The education and government sectors recorded a growth of 80.5% and 18% respectively.
“In 2023, India’s PC market struggled in both the consumer and commercial segments due to high channel inventory, slowing demand, and pessimism in the market,” said Navkendar Singh, associate vice president, devices research, IDC India.

HP tops the list in terms of shipments, with 4.4 million units shipped in 2023, down from 4.5 million devices in 2022, a decline of 2.5%. Dell recorded the highest decline in shipments as its shipments declined from 2.9 million in 2022 to 2.2 million in 2023, a decline of 24.5%.
Acer and Asus both recorded a growth of 16.1% and 8.6% respectively in 2023.

HP dominates the PC market in the country with a market share of 31.5% in 2023, up from 30.2% in 2022. The company led both the consumer and commercial segments in 2023, with a market share of 33.6% and 29.4% respectively.
Lenovo and Dell, which have a 16.7% and 15.5% market share, respectively, have reported a decline in their market share.
Acer has recorded the highest increase in market share, from 9.9% in 2022 to 12.3% in 2023. The company had strong traction in the government and education segments, leading the commercial desktop category with a share of 29.6%.
