iMessage and FaceTime went down just hours after WhatsApp suffered a major outage

iMessage and FaceTime experienced a major outage on Tuesday, according to Apple and frustrated customers online.

According to the company's status dashboard, both services were unavailable for some users beginning around 11:45 a.m. ET. The issue was resolved by 12:15 p.m., Apple said.

"iMessage" trended on Twitter, with many users complaining that they are unable to send or receive messages. Insider staff were also affected by the issue.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The outage occurred just hours after a similar issue plagued the competing messaging service WhatsApp.
