The Election commission today announced the dates for the Delhi assembly election. The election will be held in a single phase on February 8, 2020 across 13,750 polling stations with about 1.46 crore eligible voters.
Technology will play an important role in these elections as well. The election commission announced that the voter slips will include a QR code to facilitate faster identification of the voters.
Delhi will be the first state/UT in which a booth app will be used in every polling station in the country, as per The Chief Electoral Officer.
A senior official said, "This latest technological innovation will make the poll process fast through use of QR (Quick Response) Code reading of voter slips of electors".
In addition to speeding up identification, the booth app will also provide the number of voters waiting in the queue at a particular booth and give real-time updates of voter turnout.
In addition to adding a QR code to the voter slips, the election commission will also allow users to download the QR from the Voter Helpline app if the voters forget to bring their voter slips to the polling booth.
