To sharpen an image in Photoshop, you can use Smart Sharpen.

Capturing sharp images is ideal, but not realistic in all photo scenarios.

Taking a picture with little to no blur is particularly hard in low light conditions, settings where the color of your subject approximates the color of the background, or in action shots where you need to account for motion.

Fortunately, it's incredibly easy to sharpen a shot in Photoshop 2020.

In fact, it only takes three steps.

How to sharpen an image in Photoshop

1. Open Photoshop and load the image you want to sharpen onto the canvas.

2. Open "Filter," located in the main toolbar at the top of the application.

3. Scroll to "Sharpen." Scroll through the options until you see "Smart Sharpen..." and select it.

There are more complicated methods to achieve this same goal. But as Photoshop evolves, so does our ability to streamline certain tasks.

And just like that, your image will be crisp as a cucumber.

While Smart Sharpen automatically calibrates a sharper image, if you want to customize the filter further, there are adjustments available for you to tinker with and test, include removing lens or motion blur.

You can edit a wide number of settings to make the sharpening more or less intense.

There's also a Sharpen brush, which you can use to sharpen specific parts of the image manually. You can find it in your tool palette on the left side of the screen - right-click the icon that looks like a water droplet (between the paint bucket and zoom tools), and select "Sharpen Tool."
