There are a few steps you should take before you delete your Venmo account, which you'll have to do from a desktop browser rather than the app.

  • To delete a Venmo account, you'll need a desktop computer or a device with access to a browser, since the company doesn't allow you to delete your account from the app.
  • Before deleting your Venmo account, make sure to download a copy of your transaction history for your own personal records, and transfer your Venmo balance to your bank account.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Venmo doesn't allow its users to delete an account through its app, but you can do so via a desktop computer, or through your preferred mobile browser.

Be sure to download a copy of your transaction history before you delete your account, since it'll be erased along with the rest of your data. And if you have any money in your Venmo wallet, transfer it to your bank account.

Here's how to delete a Venmo account

1. Launch your preferred browser and go to https://venmo.com.

2. Sign in using your email, phone number, or username and password. If you've enabled two-factor identification, enter the pin sent to your phone number or email address.

3. Once you've signed in, select "Settings" from the menu at the top-right hand corner.
