  • Emoji set is updated to the latest version Emoji 14.0
  • Google Docs emoji feature will soon be accessible to everybody.
  • The feature will have no admin control.

Google Doc users will now be able to react to the content through emojis. A recent update released from Google Workspace mentions that this feature will join the ‘comment’ and ‘suggest’ options. The feature will be available for all google workplace customers, G-Suite customers, personal accounts and business accounts.

Emojis are an informal and fun way to respond to messages and posts on various social media platforms. It lets users express their responses without needing to write anything and it’s worked well so far on popular platforms. Currently, the feature is available on Slack, Meta owned apps like Instagram, Facebook and others, while Twitter is also considering introducing it in the future.

Google said, "Emoji set is updated to the latest version (Emoji 14.0), reflecting the latest emoji set with options to accurately reflect your identity". The feature will have gender-modifiable and gender-neutral emoji options. With no admin control, the skin tones and gender preferences will be suggested as per the individual's choice and usage. Added as a default feature, it cannot be disabled by the users.

The emoji feature will be used to react to the text you choose to comment on. According to the update, the feature is accessible to some users from 5 April and will be available for everyone from 20 April.

How to use the feature:

  • Select the text you want to review in the google doc just like you do for comments.
  • Three options will pop up alongside the selected text- add a comment, suggest edits and the new emoji option.
  • Click the emoji option and choose the one that suits your expression for the work.
The feature will be accessible in the 'editing' mode. It allows you to react and give feedback through simple and quick sign language. This feature may not be feasible in all business domains but can help review the work in an interesting manner. Also, the emoji choices you make on the google doc will automatically be shared with google chat.
