'Goodbye Twitter': Users say they're ditching the app for Mark Zuckerberg's Threads
- Threads, Meta's alternative to Twitter, appears to be off to a roaring start.
- On Elon Musk's Twitter, Threads, Meta, and Goodbye Twitter were all trending on Thursday morning.
The initial popularity of Threads, Meta's alternative to Twitter, signals a boost for Mark Zuckerberg.
The app racked up 10 million users seven hours after it was launched on Wednesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg briefly returned to Twitter for the first time in a decade, sharing a meme that referenced Threads. The tech boss has also been taking thinly veiled digs at Twitter on Threads, saying on Wednesday he was going to make Threads a "friendly place" and agreeing users should "focus on kindness."
Over on Elon Musk's Twitter, "Threads," "Meta," and "Goodbye Twitter" were all trending topics on Thursday morning.
Several tweeters took to the platform to say their goodbyes after months of turmoil under Musk's erratic leadership. Many shared memes and screenshots of new Threads accounts, encouraging their followers to switch platforms too.
One Twitter user wrote: "Instagram Threads.... Goodbye Twitter I found a better app."
"Goodbye twitter and hello threads," another wrote, "for the love of God bye Elon."
However, some Twitter users are not as impressed with the new offering. Twitter loyalists have been poking fun at Threads by mocking the design and pledging to return to Twitter.
One user posted, "not threads users gaslighting themselves saying it's better than twitter maybe it can get better but for now it's a whole mess."
Another Twitter user shared a video of crowds, along with the caption: "Everyone running back to twitter after trying Threads App for 5 min.. #ThreadsApp"
