Fox News slammed Elon Musk's Twitter event with Ron DeSantis as 'amateur hour'
- Fox News called Elon Musk's interview with Florida Gov. and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis "amateur hour."
- The news outlet poked fun at the Twitter Spaces event, dubbing it a "disaster."
Fox News took a dig at Elon Musk and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' Twitter Spaces event, during which DeSantis announced his entry into the presidential race.
"Much-hyped Ron DeSantis presidential announcement a disaster on Twitter," a banner on the news outlet's website read.
Fox News also included a note on its homepage advertising its interview with DeSantis that was scheduled to run after the governor's interview with Musk.
"Programming alert: Want to actually see and hear Ron DeSantis? Tune into Fox News at 8 p.m."
The Republican governor appeared on Musk's platform to launch his candidacy in the 2024 presidential election on Wednesday, but the event had some technical glitches. The interview on Twitter Spaces — an audio-only live streaming feature on the social media site — was slated to begin at 6 pm ET, but was held up due to issues with the platform. As over 600,000 tuned in, there were outages and audio feedback, with some users saying the app was crashing or logging them out.
After over 20 minutes of confusion, Musk's longtime friend and DeSantis supporter David Sacks launched a separate Twitter Spaces room from his account. DeSantis was able to announce his presidential campaign, and the interview with Musk appeared to go smoothly from there.
During DeSantis' interview with Trey Gowdy on Fox News later Wednesday evening, Gowdy took a shot at Twitter, as well.
"I can't promise you that I won't crash, but Fox News will not crash during this interview," he said, adding his daughter would be "very upset" if DeSantis "broke Twitter."
Some hailed the Twitter event as a disaster. Even President Joe Biden appeared to troll the event on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Musk called the live stream the "top story on Earth."
Sacks later said in an interview with Fox News that DeSantis "melted the servers." The PayPal mafia member said he was huddled with Musk and a number of engineers at Twitter's headquarters trying to figure out the issue.
"We just had so much interest. I've got to hand it to him, normally it takes a Kardashian to do that," Sacks said during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham. "We just had so much interest — it took about 15 minutes. We've never had that level of scale before on Twitter. I think the biggest room has been around 100,000."
Insider previously reported that Twitter is starting to look a lot like Fox News, as more conservatives flock to the social media site.
