Facebook's chief revenue officer, David Fischer, is leaving the company. Fischer announced the news in a Facebook post Tuesday.
"I want to share the news that I've decided to leave Facebook toward the end of this year. This has been the job of a lifetime. I am immensely proud of all that we have accomplished over the past eleven years, and am optimistic about the path the company is on," Fischer said.
Fischer runs the social media giant's advertising business and oversees its sales and marketing teams around the globe. He served as Google's vice president of global online sales and operations before joining Facebook in 2010. Before going into tech, Fischer was deputy chief of staff at the US Treasury Department.

Fischer said he plans to leave the company toward the end of 2021.
The high-profile departure comes as Facebook faces increasing scrutiny over the spread of misinformation on its platform and the way it earns money. The tech company was hit with multiple antitrust lawsuits in late 2020, and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, was grilled by lawmakers on Thursday about how the platform polices content.
