- Elon Musk had a strobe light in the shape of an X erected on the roof of the company's headquarters.
- The landlord has paid $4,447 in fines as a result, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The X sign that Elon Musk had installed on the roof of his company's headquarters resulted in $4,447 in fines which the landlord of the building paid, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
As Musk rebranded Twitter to become X, the iconic blue bird logos were removed from inside its downtown San Francisco office, and eventually from the exterior sign after interruptions from police.
The most obvious addition was a huge strobe light in the shape of an X, erected on July 28.
It attracted 24 complaints, including concerns that the sign didn't look stable and that its brightness would disturb people living nearby. It was removed three days after being installed.

City authorities said they tried to inspect the rooftop sign but X denied them access to the building.
San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection then told Insider that the property owner of the building located at 1355 Market Street would be charged fees for the lack of permits.
And the department told the Chronicle on Friday that the fines totaled $4,447.
That included $761 for a building permit to remove the sign, $1,580 for Planning Department enforcement fees, and $2,106 for Department of Building Inspection enforcement fees, according to the Chronicle.
In response to an X post about the fine — which called it the "cheapest marketing campaign of all time" — Musk shared a gif of Al Pacino in "Scarface" smoking a cigar.
It's another headache for X's landlord, which previously filed a lawsuit against the company saying that it hadn't paid rent.
X did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
