Members of Ukraine's parliament are hitting out at Elon Musk after he mocked the country's war-time president.
The world's richest man posted a meme that took aim at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over his appeals for international aid. The Ukrainian leader has secured billions of dollars of military aid from allies since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
The image, which cropped Zelenskyy's face onto a meme template, featured the text: "When it's been 5 minutes and you haven't asked for a billion dollars in aid."
Ruslan Stefanchuk, the chairperson of Ukraine's parliament, took a dig at Musk in response. In an apparent reference to SpaceX's failed launch, he said: "The case when a dude @elonmusk tried to conquer space, but something went wrong and in 5 minutes he was up to his eyeballs in shit."
In a post to its official X page, Ukraine's parliament posted the same meme with an image of Musk overlayed with the text: "When it's been 5 minutes and you haven't spread russian propaganda." The meme was reported and appeared in several outlets but appears to have been deleted.
Representatives for Elon Musk did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside regular working hours.
Musk's comments come amid a tense relationship with Ukraine.
Mykhailo Podolyak, a Zelenskyy advisor, previously slammed Musk over a report that said the SpaceX founder had denied Ukraine Starlink access in Crimea.
X has also been accused by the EU of being a weapon for Russian disinformation. The company has pushed back on the "overall framing" of the report.
