Elon Musk says he largely manages his own schedule despite running multiple companies.

Speaking at the WSJ CEO Council Summit, Musk called his time management "extremely difficult." He is CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and until recently, also headed up Twitter.

"My days are very long and complicated as you might imagine," he said. "And there's a great deal of context switching," he continued, adding that the context switch could be "quite painful."

Despite this, Musk said he does most of his scheduling himself as it's "impossible for someone else to know what the priorities are."

"I only have one part-time assistant," he said, before joking that the hours she worked would technically be considered full-time. He said: "And since the most valuable thing I have is time, I schedule it for myself for the most part."

The billionaire said he normally divided his days by company but they "somewhat intertwine."

Musk has always maintained a hectic schedule and has spoken about some of his time-management habits in previous interviews.

In August, Musk said he was "fairly nocturnal" and only slept about six hours a day. He told The Full Send podcast he usually goes to bed at about 3 a.m. and gets up around 9 a.m. Musk also said he had a "bad habit" of immediately checking his phone after waking up to see if any "emergencies happen overnight."

After his acquisition of Twitter in October, Musk said he had been sleeping in the company's San Francisco HQ after converting some of the offices into bedrooms.
