Elon Musk reportedly wants new features for Twitter as Threads rivalry heats up

Elon Musk might be starting to feel the heat of Mark Zuckerberg's new Twitter clone, Threads.

The billionaire tweeted Tuesday about a new feature supposedly sparked by a "user's suggestion."

Internally, it appears Musk's also been pressing his staff to come up with new ideas.

According to Platformer's Zoë Schiffer, the Tesla CEO sent an email telling staff that Twitter needs to launch better features faster than ever. The email, however, pointedly failed to mention Threads.

Twitter did not respond to Insider's request for comment with a reply that addressed the query.

Zuckerberg's attempt at a Twitter killer is off to a promising start. Threads hit the 100 million user mark on Monday, growing at a faster rate than OpenAI's viral AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT.

The Twitter clone has benefitted from its link to Instagram, which allows it to access the app's 2 billion-plus user base.

Threads is still in its early stages, but Meta has grand plans to add more features. Instagram boss Adam Mosseri said it was working on features including a timeline that shows posts from people you follow, a button to edit posts, and the ability to search for posts too.

Over at Twitter, Musk and new CEO Linda Yaccarino have been trying to play down reports that Twitter's traffic has taken a recent hit. Yaccarino said Monday the platform had its "largest usage day" in five months.
