Elon Musk mocks Apple's Vision Pro by taking a swipe at its price tag

  • Elon Musk has poked fun at the price of Apple's new mixed-reality headset.
  • Apple launched the Vision Pro, the company's first major product in eight years, last week.

The $3,499 price tag for Apple's new Vision Pro headset may even be too steep for the world's richest man, Elon Musk.

The Tesla CEO posted a meme on Twitter poking fun at the price of the augmented-reality headset. The image compared Apple's new headset to a bag of mushrooms with the text: "Apple $3,500 augmented reality VS. $20 augmented reality."

Musk later posted another meme, featuring a headset with a similar shape to Apple's, which appeared to reference the new product.

Apple launched the Vision Pro — its first major product in eight years — last week. However, the price has been a sore spot for many diehard fans.

When the tech giant announced the mixed-reality headset at its Worldwide Developer Conference, the audience responded to the high price with groans, sighs, and laughter, as Insider's Pete Syme reported. Videos of the collective reaction have been shared widely on social media.

Musk was engaged in an argument with the Big Tech company late last year. In November, the Tesla CEO said Apple had "mostly" stopped advertising on Twitter, tagging Tim Cook in his tweet. He later took aim at Apple's 30% App Store fee, calling it "a 30% tax on the Internet" and tweeting a photo implying he had gone to war with the tech giant.

Representatives for Apple did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside normal working hours.
