AI may make landing your next date a little bit easier.

Match Group, the parent company behind dating apps like Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid, said in its latest earnings letter that Match has plans to integrate new AI features across its line of apps over the next two quarters.

While Tinder has been using AI since 2019 for "matching algorithms, merchandising, and trust and safety efforts," these new features are more customer-facing.

One of the AI features could explain why the app recommended a match to the user.

"Get ready for endless laughter with this witty charmer who shares your love for brunch, scary movies, and a laid-back approach to life!" AI explained in a concept photo included in Match's earnings letter.

Another planned tool is "AI-enabled photo selection," which Match says could help users select the best photos for their dating profiles.

Match did not mention which of its dating apps will contain the new AI features, though during the company's earnings call on Wednesday, Bernard Kim, Match Group's CEO, hinted that Tinder may be getting the photo selection feature.

Tinder users "get generally nervous or uncomfortable" over choosing which photos to upload, which could turn them off the app, Kim said.

An AI-photo selection feature, which would scan a user's photo album and pick the best photos, can "take out the stress" from choosing the right pictures, he added.

Mark van Ryswyk, Tinder's chief product officer, teased the feature last month, saying that generative AI could help Tinder users find "that perfect photo" at Reuters Momentum Summit on Artificial Intelligence in early July.

The announcement of new AI features comes a few months after Kim said in Match's first quarter earnings call that the company was looking into ways AI could help users come up with date ideas and conversation starters, and eliminate ghosting.

Some app users are already using AI to improve their dating lives.

A recent study from Attractiontruth, an AI dating coach, found that 20% of the 1,371 men the company surveyed between the ages of 25 and 35 are using tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT to generate their dating app profile bios, and craft "tailored" and "captivating" messages.

"By employing AI to initiate and manage conversations on dating apps, users can experience more positive outcomes and enhanced interaction quality," Salvatore Damiata, the cofounder of Attractiontruth, previously told Insider in an email.
