This might be the most bizarre idea for a Netflix show but turns out it’s not. Netflix has bought the rights to a Twitter account “Chicago Party Aunt” for a new show with the same name. Chicago Party Aunt will be a new adult animated comedy based on the life of the main character as depicted through the Twitter account. The Chicago Party Aunt Twitter account is handled by American actor Chris Witaske. It features Diane Dunbrowski, a middle-aged woman known for partying hard, as the main character who according to Netflix “has always been and always will be the life of the party, even when the party has long since been over.”
The Netflix show Chicago Party Aunt will debut on September 17, and it will release 16 episodes in total with each half an hour long. Netflix has roped in comedian Lauren Ash who will be the voice behind Diane Dunbrowski. The show will also feature Rory O’Malley, RuPaul Charles, Jill Talley, Ike Barinholtz, Jon Barinholtz, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Katie Rich.
The show has been inspired by the Twitter account so it is expected to animate Dunbrowski’s adventures in Chicago. More characters confirmed for the show include Diane’s nephew Daniel, her sister Bonnie, and rival business owner Gideon, TechRadar reported. The series has been created by Chris Witaske, Jon Barinholtz and Katie Rich.
This isn’t the first attempt at turning a Twitter account into a TV show. CBS aired one season of the show ‘$#*! My Dad Says’ back in 2010. This is also based on the Twitter account with the same name. There was another show called “Very British Problems” which was based on a Twitter account.
