According to a recent New York Times article, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has declared an internal "code red" following the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT as it sees it as a potential threat to its search business. Recently, CNBC reported that Google has begun testing various new AI tools, one of which is a chatbot named "Apprentice Bard."

Google makes a $300 million investment in Anthropic in a race against ChatGPT

According to the Financial Times, Google has invested $300 million in Anthropic, a prominent rival to OpenAI. Anthropic's recently launched generative AI model, Claude, is deemed a worthy competitor to ChatGPT.

The investment, which gives Google a 10% stake, values the San Francisco-based company at approximately $5 billion. This development follows Microsoft's recent $10 billion investment in OpenAI, indicating the intensifying competition among big tech companies in the generative AI sector.

However, Google never felt compelled to make its AI products readily available to the general public in their early stages. The launch of ChatGPT changed this, as the longer Google takes to launch competitive alternatives, the more widespread ChatGPT could become due to the absence of other options.
