BSNL announces a free ‘Work@Home’ plan with 5GB high speed data

Amidst the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) announced a new “Work@Home” promotional plan to encourage users to work from home and avoid travelling.

The new plan will not only help users who are stuck at home due to Coronavirus but may also help BSNL in getting new users and converting some landline users to broadband users.

Also this new plan could be a direct challenge to market leader Reliance Jio’s latest request to set a base tariff and cut down free offers and data. However, BSNL requested the government to exempt it from a floor price plan as it has less than 15% market share. LINK UR STORY

BSNL ‘Work@Home’ plan benefits

However, this could be a temporary plan that could last one month. As part of the Word@Home plan, BSNL is offering 10 Mbps download speeds with a daily cap of 5GB data to all its landline users across circles. Additionally, users will also get email ID access with 1GB storage space.

The plan does not have any upload or download limits. Once the user exhausts the 5GB per day limit, the speed will come down from 10 Mbps to 1 Mbps. While the speed and data limits are not high, the plan is being given our free of charge.

The offer is available only for its landline users. BSNL is not charging any installation fee or security deposit for the plan. However, users may have to pay for the landline as the calling benefit will be available as per their existing plan.

At the moment, the free plan will be available for one month from the date of activation. BSNL is not the only one to offer a plan for the lockdown period. Other providers such as ACT Fibernet, Airtel Xstream Fibre and Excitel are also offering benefits to help users during the Coronavirus pandemic.

ACT Fibernet has offered a free upgrade where all its users will get increased speed without Fair Usage Policy (FUP) limits till March 31. As part of this, the basic plan users have been offered a speed of 100 Mbps and other users have been offered a speed of 300 Mbps.

Airtel temporarily waived off installation charges and security deposit for new Xstream Fibre connections. Excitel Broadband on the other hand has introduced new affordable plans for those working from home.
