BenQ PD3225U review – a premium 4K monitor for creators
  • BenQ has launched the PD3225U 4K designer monitor in India.
  • It is a premium 4K monitor aimed at creators and designers.
  • Here’s my review of the 32-inch BenQ PD3225U monitor that will help you decide whether to buy the device or not.
BenQ is a popular name when it comes to monitors, be it for creators or for gaming, there’s something in store for everyone. The company recently launched the BenQ PD3225U, a premium 32-inch 4K monitor for creators and designers.

Professional content creators often use a Mac and it is often difficult to find a good monitor to pair with your Mac. With the BenQ PD3225U, the company is looking to fill this gap, with an IPS Black panel, offering improved contrast.

I have been using the BenQ PD3225U gaming monitor for a few weeks now, and here is my detailed review of the premium 4K monitor.

Price and availability

The BenQ PD3225U 4K monitor is priced at ₹99,990. It is available from Amazon India, BenQ’s Online Store and the company’s authorised retail stores across the country.

Design

The BenQ PD3225U has a minimalistic design, in line with its professional characteristics.

Despite its large display, the monitor is sleek and features minimal bezels on all four sides. There is no branding at the front, with the company offering a distraction-free experience.

At the back, the monitor comes with BenQ branding. It features an all-black design at the back, with a matte finish to prevent fingerprint smudges and making it easier to clean

Coming to the stand is an all-metallic stand that comes with a charcoal-silver finish. The stand has a large base that is aimed at keeping it stable. Talking about branding, the base features BenQ branding on it.

The stand is good, offering a lot of customisation. You can adjust the height up to 6 inches, swivel 60 degrees, pivot up to 90 degrees and tilt up to 25 degrees. Allowing you to get it in the perfect position that suits you.

The monitor is on the heavier side, weighing 8.2 kg with the stand. However, this is not surprising considering the large 32-inch display.

For OSD controls, the monitor comes with a joystick and buttons on the right side. It comes with a cable organiser on the stand to help you manage your cables and minimise clutter.

It is packed with ample ports, featuring two HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, a USB Type-C port, a USB Type-B port and three USB Type-A ports.

Display and performance

Coming to the display, the BenQ PD3225U features a 31.5-inch IPS Black panel. For those unaware, IPS Black is a new variant of IPS panels that offers improved contrast compared to traditional IPS panels. While this is the first time that BenQ has used an IPS Black panel, companies like LG and Dell have used IPS Black panels for their monitors.

The monitor from BenQ offers a 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, 400 nits brightness and a 5 ms response time (GtG).

As the monitor is aimed at designers and creators, image quality and colour reproduction are very important. This is where the BenQ PD3225U shines, offering excellent colour reproduction and detailed images. The IPS Black panel helps in maintaing a good contrast ratio.

The monitor offers high brightness, ensuring you don’t have to worry about visibility. The monitor is quite bright and I found myself using it mostly around the 50% mark.

The screen is factory-calibrated for MacBook, allowing you to start using it immediately without worrying about colour calibration. It also offers an M-Book mode to sync the colour settings between your device and the monitor.

BenQ has also offered the Hotkey Puck G2 with the monitor. This can be connected to the monitor and allows you to control the on-screen menu. This helps in boosting productivity as it allows you to easily switch between various modes and tools.

The monitor also comes with dual 2.5W speakers. These are enough to watch a quick video, listen to music or just for notifications. While these are good to have, they are not a replacement for a pair of headphones. I have always preferred a monitor that has a speaker so that I don’t have to grab my headphones every time I want to listen to something.

Verdict

The BenQ PD3225U is an excellent option, especially for MacBook users looking for a reliable monitor. While the price may look on the higher side, it is relatively affordable when compared to the Apple Studio Display which starts at ₹1,59,900. While that’s a completely different thing, the BenQ PD3225U does its job well and ticks all the right boxes, including a good design, excellent display and great connectivity options.
